Als Frauenrechtsaktivistin, Menschenrechtsaktivistin und muslimische Frau gehört sie unter anderem zu den bedeutendsten Stimmen im Kampf gegen religiöse und traditionsgebundene Gewalt. Sie eröffnete mit 6 anderen Gesellschaftern 2017 die liberale Ibn Rushd-Goethe Moschee in Berlin. Zuletzt sind von ihr erschienen Der Islam braucht eine sexuelle Revolution (2009), Wahlheimat (2013) und Selam, Frau Imamin (2017).
