23 to 25 October 2026, Melk Abbey & Tischlerei Melk Kulturwerkstatt
Dear friends of Globart,
we are delighted to announce the date and motto of the Days of Transformation 2026 and the start of ticket sales.
From 23 to 25 October 2026, we will bring two special venues in Melk to life under the motto “DIE WURZEL AUS WIR – On Radicality and the Future”.
We go right back to the origin of the word – radix, the root – and thus understand radicality as rootedness, steadfastness and as the ground of history on which our actions stand, whether as individuals, as a group or as a society. A kind of radicality is inherent in all of us, one that does not want to be understood only as confrontational or even militant. Rather, it rests on the knowledge of how essential it is, especially in times of hardening and escalation, to reflect on a common origin, to grasp radical thinking by its roots and to give it a positive, humane dimension.
Melk Abbey, one of the most important baroque monasteries in Europe, sits enthroned high above the Danube and, with its magnificent Kolomanisaal and baroque garden pavilion, offers a unique setting for encounter and reflection. Tischlerei Melk Kulturwerkstatt, which really was once a carpentry workshop, has become a lively cultural centre in Lower Austria. As a modern venue, it creates space for discussion, art and social exchange – urban, open and welcoming.
At the opening, philosopher Mirjam Schaub takes us on a journey through the intellectual history of radicality and shows why it can never be thought of without our bodies and their commitment. Theologian Wolfgang Palaver invites us to look behind the scenes of Peter Thiel’s techno-capitalism – an analysis that brings together libertarianism, political theology and the great questions of power of our time. In a reading, actors Daniela Golpashin and Manuel Rubey turn to the correspondence between resistance fighter Sophie Scholl and Wehrmacht soldier Fritz Hartnagel – a moving testimony to the struggle for closeness, freedom and responsibility.
