Karin Sander and Harald Welzer on art as a translation of future models and its ability "to perforate the reality assertion of every contemporary society". "Future is certainly not the only area that cannot be explored, simply because it is not there. The future is something you can only create. The future can only be how you make it."

The concrete surrounds people. The artist Nikolaus Eckhard imagines that the archaeologists of our future will look at the skeletons of our buildings and understand them as part of our own skeletons. In reference to the exchange of information between wooden panel and fresh concrete in the construction phase of the museum building, he used his body as a boarding and thus held the concrete between himself and the building until it became solid in the performance "brea.th.through".

Seyran Atés - Islam in Europe - does this confuse us? The future of Europe is no longer conceivable without Muslims. For this reason, Europe would benefit from dealing with the issue of Islam in Europe more intensively and honestly.

Susan Neiman on the resistance of reason. "From the fact that some moral claims are hidden claims to power, one cannot conclude that every claim to act for the common good conceals a claim to power. But logic is rarely the strength of thinkers who often write in such obscurity that they remind us of Nietzsche's saying: "They cloud the waters so that they appear deep."

Refugee flows had shaped our reality in 2015. At the ACADEMY 2016 we made a statement. Not talking about it, but doing something together: Like a big family, we had a celebration. Together we cooked, played music, ate, laughed, told stories, made friends - in the tradition of our guests: sitting on the floor.

Magdalena Chowaniec and Mani Obeya have entangled the Academy's participants in a refugee situation with their choreography. Six young men from Somalia, Afghanistan and the Ivory Coast tell about their escape across the sea. Using dances and songs they take the audience on their odyssey to their new home Vienna. Muhammad Ahmadi, one of the dancers, received a negative notice on that day. He was facing deportation.

Europe is currently experiencing a political crisis. What frightens or threatens me the most or what needs to be preserved the most? The Greek artist Danae Stratou literally posed this question into the room with symmetrical urgency. Stratou's work is a vivid reflection of the social zeitgeist. One hundred voices became part of the artwork.
