Harnoncourt Philipp

Catholic theologian and priest. In 1963 he founded the department of church music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. Between 1972 and 1998 he was on the board of the Institute for Liturgy Sciences, Christian Art and Hymnology at the University of Graz. In 1999, Harnoncourt retired. His main researches and hymnology were an important contribution to the post-conciliar liturgy reform. His literature is documented in 550 publications. His “Styrian model” of evaluation of the constructions and reconstructions of churches was considered unique throughout all of Austria. Since 1986 Philipp Harnoncourt is working on the board of the ecological foundation “Pro Oriente”. When it comes to the ecumenical approach between the catholic and the orthodox church, Harnoncourt is considered a theological mastermind.
