Essl Karlheinz

Austrian composer, performer, electronics technician, media artist and professor at the Vienna University of Music. Studied composition, electroacoustic composition, double bass at the Vienna Musikhochschule and musicology and art history at the University of Vienna. He specializes in the theoretical and compositional processing of serial approaches, the investigation of the formalizability of musical processes (“Computer Aided Composition”), the development of software for algorithmic composition and generative sound generation in real time. Numerous publications on contemporary composition theory and guest lectures at music and art universities including Graz, Toronto, Copenhagen, Cologne, Stuttgart, Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Mexico, Hilversum, Groningen, Valencia, Nottingham, Brisbane, Helsinki, Kiev, Riga, Parma and Oslo. 1992-2016 Music Director of the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg.
