From 1967 to 1971 painter Eduard Angeli taught as a visiting professor at the Academy of Applied Arts in Istanbul. During this time, Angeli began – inspired by his friend Dr. Leo Navratil, founder of the house of artists in Gugging – to work artistically with patients of the psychiatric hospital in Bakirköy in Istanbul. At that time he also started to collect different artworks from this institution and thus enabled a unique insight into the early Turkish Art Brut. A selection of the 1960s period has now for the first time been exhibited publically.
