Speidel Klaus-Peter

Born 1979 in Reutlingen, Germany. PhD in philosophy, image and art theorist, art critic and curator. Master’s Thesis on René Magritte’s word pictures and an MPhil on ways to express non-linear thinking, followed by a PhD about the possibilities and modalities of narrative in the single picture (Sorbonne, 2013). Speidel lived, studied and worked in Paris for 12 years before moving to Vienna in 2015. He was awarded the AICA France Prize for Art-Criticism that same year. As a postdoctoral researcher at the Lab for Cognitive Research in Art History (CReA) at Vienna University he works experimentally and theoretically on narrative pictures. He writes articles for academic journals, as well as criticism for Spike and artpress and texts for catalogues (Centre Pompidou, Schirn Kunsthalle, mumok, Dom Museum…). As a co-founder of Verein K he organizes and facilitates Crit Cross. A Forum on Art Criticism.
