Lemke-Matwey, Christine

Christine Lemke-Matwey studied German literature, philosophy and musicology in Cologne and in Munich and started working for theatres and opera houses in Bonn, Vienna, Hamburg, Bregenz and Chur/Switzerland. Since 1995 she is writing as a journalist on classical music mostly for German radios and newspapers such as BR, WDR or „Süddeutsche Zeitung“. In 2000 she became music editor of „Der Tagesspiegel“ in Berlin, since 2012 she is member of Germanies most important weekly paper „Die Zeit“, situated in Hamburg. In 2003 she directed her first opera („Malins Heimkehr“ in Innsbruck), in 2004 she wrote the libretto for Charlotte Seither’s „One Woman Opera“. She teaches at the universities of Berlin, Munich and Zurich. Together with the conductor Christian Thielemann she wrote „My life with Wagner“, which was published in 2012.
