HOW FAR CAN WE GO?

Anything is possible! – How generations push boundaries

“The world is on the verge of changing and we all stand in front of it, confused. Especially now, it‘s more important than ever, that young people take an interest in politics. We are the ones who have no fear to go and do things. We are the ones who understand that rules can be bent. We know life, look at the world around us and start asking questions: “Why is this the way it is?” says Marina Weisband, a member of Generation Y, in her book “Ideen für eine zeitgemäße Demokratie”.

What is the Generation Y?

It’s a generation that chooses happiness over money! A generation that wants to find a healthy balance between work and family life, a generation that doesn’t put off their problems but looks for solutions.

Can we pin our hopes on them?

Members of Generation Y are considered tacticians, dreamers, cowards and adventurers. And yet they are the best educated generation there is. “We are not lazy. We want to work. But differently. In harmony with our own needs. We won’t be slaves of our own jobs, but if we are 100% convinced of something (and the coffee machine is working), we will show full commitment. We are looking for meaning and self-realisation and demand time for friends and family”, says Kerstin Bund.

My generation has something to say,” says Marina Weisband. “About how society works for us. About what the jobs of the future look like. About the stress and struggels of the lifestyle of today. Discussing, trying, designing. We want to form a society, in which we will live in for years and years to come.”

Every generation must face its challenges

“We grew up in the paradox certainty that anything is possible and yet we have to hold back to change the future for the better,” claims Yulian Ide. But this very fact doesn’t make the generation unhappy, it makes them creative people with new career models and ideas.

We want to contract some of that optimism. Their visions of a successful life and collective solidarity are a positive example and gives us a little more courage.

What can we learn from each other? What can we turn upside down? How will future generations handle our legacy? This we want and need to discuss at the GLOBART Academy 2015.

We are looking forward to seeing you there.
